  1. As I took my pup for our morning walk along the site for the new library, I noticed the signs of impending construction; "jersey" barricades staged on the south end of the site like an invading army, lines and marking in neon orange, bright blue & red marking utilities, future temporary fence lines, and access gates.

But what I noticed most were four silent trees about 30' tall. Budding. Beautiful. They were planted after the site demolition. It occurred to me that they were still of a size capable of being scooped and balled for reuse.

A hour later, I left to start my day. The trees were cut off at their base and their remains dumped into a truck to be hauled away.

And for the first time, I wasn't happy about the library project.
